A year full of major transitions and changes is coming to an end. Not all challenges have been met immediately and easily and some solutions are yet to be found over the next year.

Winner of the Can of the Year 2022 competition, which is backed by The Canmaker magazine, is a digitally-printed beverage can produced by NOMOQ, a Swiss-based distributor of containers and service provider to the craft beer sector.

With the brand new D480.2, Hinterkopf presents already it’s fourth generation of digital printing systems. The innovative concepts is based on over 10 years of proven technology, and offers customers a vastly expanded range of possibilities in decoration of packaging – translucent colors, gloss or barrier coatings to name only a few. The design teams at Hinterkopf have incorporated classic analog stations to the otherwise fully digital printing system.

Without a doubt, sustainability is at the center of discussion on many levels, today and for sure also in the future. Our digital printing solutions, ranging from D120 to D240.2 and D360.3 offer players in the packaging industry for already over 10 years the resource and energy efficient production of tubes, aerosol cans, bottles, cartridges and other cylindrical hollow containers from aluminum or plastic.

In order to further expand its production capacities and capabilities, and to further improve production efficiencies, the Alltub Group will install two new aluminium tube production lines and a new laminate tube printing machine at its plants in Italy and Germany in 2021. Though sharing a common platform, the requirements of the two aluminium tube lines differ significantly from each other, underlining the high flexibility of the plants and the production lines from Hinterkopf.

Digital printing provides the perfect solution for economical decoration of small production lots. Printing machines such as the D240.2 by Hinterkopf allow to send artwork directly from the creative computer to the printer. There are no printing plates or change-over delays, and virtually zero waste to consider. Those are some of the advantages which make this technology ever more attractive to the world of craft beer.

Highly versatile in-line finishing machine for tubes from aluminum or plastic, with the widest array of caps and closures. Impressive speeds of up to 300 tubes per minute.

A total of 14 digital printing machines made by Hinterkopf are in operation today across the globe, producing a grand total of 1 million packaging containers each day, with an amazing daily 250 different graphics. Applications range from aerosol cans to beverage cans for craft beverages, also tubes as well as cartridges – the variety in cylindrical hollow containers is nearly endless.

The brand-new transfer machine H210 combines the best features of its tried and tested sisters H200 and H240. Several hundred of these two classic machine lines are operation around the globe. The latest generation H210 is ready for almost anything: decoration of cans, tubes, bottles and other cylindrical hollow container, regardless if made from aluminum or plastic, in the widest range of shapes and sizes. At a maximum speed up to 210 cycles per minute you can rely on proven technology.

A total of 12 digital printing machines made by Hinterkopf are currently in production and have decorated a total of over 350 million containers. Every day over a million containers are added to that grand total. Four of those machines are dedicated to the decoration of beverage cans.   

We are extending the in-house technology showcase for individual appointments

Due to overwhelming interest in our latest technology highlights, we are extending the in-house technology showcase. Originally running during the month of September 2020, we are extending this successful event for the second time for additional individual appointments at our factory in Eislingen/Germany for an additional two weeks until October 23, 2020.

The plan was to reveal our next world innovation at this year‘s Metpack. The Covid-19 crisis made this impossible, which is why we are excited to present this innovation online.

Declining consumer confidence is one of the reasons why a growing number of producers of tubes, cans and cartridges made from aluminum or plastics prefer smaller manufacturing lot sizes. Cost efficient decoration of small lots is made possible with the D240 digital printer made by Hinterkopf.

Mátrametál, based in Hungary and with its 350 employees, has a history of over 50 years. The core competence of Mátrametál is the manfacture of tubes and cans made from aluminum. Operating successfully in the international sphere, Mátrametál sells its products on a worldwide basis into 33 countries. A total of five up-to-date production lines are producing over 85 million cans anually.

Cannex & Fillex trade show and conference for the can making and filling industries took place at Colorado Convention Center in Denver from May 1 – 3, 2019. Numerous attendees and over 80 international exhibitors engaged in comprehensive conversations. Aside from a wide array of exhibits, visitors as well as exhibitors participated in the concurrent technical conference, covering the pertinent current topics of the industry.

At the beginning of 2020 a line-up of three digital printing machines by Hinterkopf reached a significant milestone: 300 million containers produced, which marks a record setting performance.

Effective end of last year, Eislingen/Germany based Hinterkopf GmbH took over exclusive license for the manufacture and sales of series XS and XL impact extrusion presses from Schuler Pressen GmbH for the packaging industry. This was exciting news for many industry experts and visitors. Several in-depth conversations resulted in specific requests for this technology offering. The strategic acquisition enables Hinterkopf to offer complete production lines to the industry.

The weight of aluminum beverage cans has been continously reduced over the past years. 60 years ago, the first beverage cans had a weight of approximately 80 grams (80g). Today, beverage cans with volume of 330ml or 12oz. barely weigh 13g. A similar development can be observed in aerosol cans. Manufacturers apply lots of effort to optimize raw material usage.

The center of attention at this year’s Aerosol Forum in Shanghai clearly was the D240.2, the next generation digital printing machine. It comes with more precision, higher speed and a compact size, compared to it’s predecessor. The latest generation D240 has already sold six times. Just recently the first D240.2 went into operation at BAOWU Steel in China.

Reacting with speed and flexibility to changing market demands: an increasingly important ability for suppliers of metal and plastic packaging. Technical solutions which enable this agility are attracting more and more attention.

Ball Corporation completed the factory acceptance of their new aerosol can production line at the factory in Eislingen in November 2017. Ball Corp., founded in 1880 as Ball Brothers Glass Manufacturing Company, is currently the largest manufacturer worldwide for aluminum cans, with headquarters in Broomfield, Colorado (USA). The new can line is planned to start production by the end of February at the Ball factory location in San Luis Potosi in Mexico.
